Supporting Sustainable Livelihoods for Women in Xuân Nha

In March and early April, women from four villages—Thin, Tun, Chieng Nua, and Chieng Hin—in Xuân Nha commune, Van Ho district, Son La province, actively participated in building mushroom houses and learning straw mushroom cultivation techniques under the guidance of staff from PanNature.

This initiative is part of the project “Enhancing Economic Empowerment for Ethnic Minority Women in Xuân Nha Commune, Vân H? District, S?n La Province,” funded by Cummins DKSH Vietnam.

Xuân Nha is a mountainous commune in Vân H? district, where over 95% of the population belongs to ethnic minority groups, primarily White Thái and M??ng. The commune borders the Xuân Nha Nature Reserve, an area rich in biodiversity but facing threats of deforestation and biodiversity loss due to unsustainable exploitation.

With an average income of approximately 19.5 million VND per person per year and over 35% of households classified as poor or near-poor, supporting sustainable livelihoods is critical. Models like mushroom cultivation not only provide income for women but also help reduce pressure on forest resources, protect nature, and sustain long-term livelihoods for the local community.
