Local Students Learned to Protect the Northern White-cheeked Gibbons

On September 26, 2025, Van Ho Primary School and PanNature organized an educational event titled “Protecting the Northern White-cheeked Gibbon – The Heart of Van Ho’s Green Forest.”

The event was honored to welcome the participation of Ms. Pham Thi Thuy – Vice Principal of Van Ho Primary School; Ms. Nguyen Thi Lam Hong and Mr. Tran Ngoc Hiep – representatives of the local Forest Protection Department; Mr. Doan Dinh Dieu – representative of the Parent Association of Van Ho Primary School; Mr. Nguyen Trung Bien – representative of Van Ho Center for Culture and Communication; Mr. Phan Van Thang – PanNature field officer, along with teachers and more than 300 students of the school.

After an engaging introduction about the Northern White-cheeked Gibbons (Nomascus leucogenys) through vivid images and stories, the “Ring the Golden Bell” knowledge competition officially began. Students eagerly raised their hands to answer exciting questions about the species’ biological traits, natural habitat, and the importance of protecting this endangered primate.

Each question brought out an atmosphere of friendly yet thrilling competition — some students answered correctly to bursts of applause, while others left the stage with slight disappointment but smiling faces. These lively moments not only created joy and excitement but also helped the students absorb knowledge about nature in a fun and memorable way.

At the end of the contest, the organizers awarded prizes to the most outstanding students — First, Second, Third, and Consolation prizes — recognizing their efforts and encouraging their love for nature. Commemorative gifts were also presented to participating classes for their enthusiastic engagement.

More than a simple knowledge competition, the program became a true celebration for teachers and students, spreading a spirit of unity and pride in the local natural heritage. Through this activity, students gained a deeper understanding of biodiversity, nurtured their affection for the Northern White-cheeked Gibbons, and strengthened their awareness of the vital role that forests and wildlife play in our lives.

The event concluded with joyful laughter and applause, reflecting the shared commitment of teachers, parents, forest rangers, and the local community — all united by one belief: To protect the Northern White-cheeked Gibbons is to safeguard the future of Van Ho’s green forests.
