Codes of Ethics
PanNature’s staff and managers are expected to adhere to the highest standards of personal and professional behaviors and conduct. They are expected to:
- Be punctual and reliable at work
- Comply with the terms and conditions defined in the Staff Handbook
- Follow regulations, procedures and instructions defined by PanNature and its management
- Work diligently, faithfully, honestly and competently.
- Respect and protect PanNature’s property and equipment.
- Treat their colleagues with courtesy and respect.
Involvement in Professional Activities Outside of PanNature
PanNature’s full-time staff may not undertake any other professional activity under the name of PanNature or affiliating with PanNature without prior approval from the Executive Director or their line manager.
Staff may not engage in activities that may jeopardize PanNature’s reputation.
Disclosure of Information
Staff shall be responsible for maintaining confidentiality of business information relating to PanNature. Staff shall not communicate to any third party information concerning the business of PanNature that is not already made public and that is known to them because of their position within PanNature. The Director should be informed in the case of unintentional disclosure of information by staff.
Staff shall not use information concerning the business of PanNature that is not already made public and that is known to them because of their position within PanNature to personal or third party advantage or to the disadvantage of PanNature.
Discrimination and harassment
PanNature recruits and promotes staff on the basis of equal opportunity for all without regard to sex, marital status, race, nationality, ethnic origin, political or religious belief, physical impairment and sexual preference.
PanNature rejects discrimination or harassment on the basis of equal opportunity for all without regard to sex, marital status, race, nationality, ethnic origin, political or religious belief, physical impairment and sexual preference in the workplace.
Harassment, including sexual harassment, and violence, are not tolerated and will result in disciplinary action. Workplace harassment includes offensive, intimidating, demeaning, hurtful, malicious or threatening comments or conduct towards another person.
Staff who believe they are suffering from harassment should be report this immediately to the Director.
Acceptance of gifts and improper privileges
Staff will not offer, solicit or accept cash, gifts or privileges in order to establish a beneficial situation, to solve a problem, or for any other reason.
Gifts or entertainment valued under 100,000.00 VND may be accepted where these are a normal expression of courtesy or convention, and where they will not result in the expectation of reciprocal action.
The giving and receiving of gifts between PanNature employees with a supervisor- supervisee relationship is not permitted beyond normal expressions of courtesy or tradition.
In Vietnam’s context, service providers may offer ’commissions’ to induce use of their service. Commissions must only be accepted if they are in the best interests of PanNature. Only the organization can accept commissions. Staff are NOT ALLOWED to accept commissions for personal gain. Employees offered commissions must report this to their Supervisor or the Director.
Taking ‘commissions’ for personal gain is considered gross misconduct and disciplinary action by PanNature may include terminating the employee’s contract.
Purchase or use of wildlife and related products
PanNature expects its staff to conform to the expectations of a nature conservation organisation and demonstrate the highest duty of care for wildlife, both animals and plants in their professional and personal lives. Staff will not purchase, transport, exploit, and use wildlife species protected by Vietnam’s laws.
When working in the field, staff shall refuse to consume wildlife meals and products if partners or others invite.
Staff who intentionally violate this regulation will be considered disciplinary action by PanNature. PanNature may terminate the employee’s contract in the case of frequent misconduct.
